Biography

Datuk M. Supperamaniam graduated from the University of Malaya in 1970 with a B.A.(Hons.) degree in Economics. He joined the Malaysian Administrative and DiplomaticService in October 1970 and was posted to the Ministry of Trade and Industry as AssistantDirector. He served in the same Ministry for thirty-three years in various capacities includingDirector, International Trade and Malaysia’s Senior Trade Commissioner to Hong Kong /People Republic of China.
He was appointed as Deputy Secretary – General of the Ministry of International Trade andIndustry from 1997 up to 2000. In May, 2000 he was appointed by the Government asAmbassador / Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the World Trade organisation inGeneva, Switzerland.
Since his official retirement from Government service he has assumed role as a resourceperson / consultant to meetings, workshops and conferences organised by United NationsAgencies, regional and international organisations and foreign governments. Has also beenappointed to serve as a member on several national committees of the Government relatingto trade and investment policy issues and negotiations.
Currently he serves as an Adjunct Professor / Advisor to Globalisation / WTO Unit to theInternational Islamic University of Malaysia, Visiting Professor of Macau University ofScience & Technology (Faculty of Law), Adjunct Professor Science and ManagementUniversity, Kuala Lumpur, Distinguished Fellow Institute of Strategic and InternationalStudies Malaysia (ISIS).
